Party-based parliamentarism

...Kyrgyzstan-style. It was only to be expected, as I did, that the omnipotent Ak Jol party in the parliament would soon have internal troubles. It had recruited too many ambitious people. But perhaps all such ambitions won't equal that of the speaker. As I have said eslewhere in the blog, his ambition distinctly overshadows his political sense and practical reasoning. Come on, one does not show political guts and ambition over questions such as fancy decoration of the parliamentary building. There just must be more worthy and politically wiser issues to build one's profile over.

This can potentially be a good sign, this intra-party dispute. While the bone of contention isn't worth a penny (even though the price tags is over 1 million dollars), it is symptomatic of the nature of Ak Jol party, of its haphazard composition, youth as an organization, and absence of any intra-party ideological, political culture. It has been only a part of convenience. If these disputes are taken to a conclusion - hopefully - we might see a welcome shake-down of the party and of party-based parliamentary work.
